My best shot at some Swedish answers by: Thoorbear
Hi.
As far as I know, the hottest chilipepper in the world is the Bhut Jolokia (or some of its other Jolokia siblings) at a fierce above 1 million Scoville.
Northwestern South America and South Centralamrica is, as far as I know, regarded as the home of chilipepper. From there, it was brought to Africa by returning slaves, to Europe by explorers and conquistadores and to North America by different Central American cultures.
The most popular chili in the world, is a bit of a trick question. The Tabasco, made famous by the Louisiana based McIlhenny company, is surely up there in the tops. However, being that the Chinese and Indian markets are *HUGE* as far as population and consumption is concerned, I wouldn't be surprised if some asian chilipepper is the biggest seller. But as far as most widely distributed and therefore, in a way, also most popular, I think the Tabasco still reigns.
Kind regards,
