Man, that was some hot phone call

by David
(rewiti007@hotmail.com)

A friend of mine was introduced to Rocoto Chillies by a Peruvian man, and he has been producing them for me for the products I make (I manufacture Chilli relishes, jams and biscuits and I do a mean Orange Chilli Cake).

When he first invited me to sample his Chilis preserved in oil, just the oil on the tip of my finger had me sweating profusely and my tongue felt like it was
going to burn off. After 15 minutes, as I started to come back to Earth, my friend received a phone call, from another mutual friend, and he put the call
on the Loudspeaker.

The voice said just this "Hoooweee They were hot." This
mutual friend is a chilli eater from way back, and he likes to do what he always does on Saturdays, curl up on the couch and munch chillies like they were apples, while watching his favourite sport. He had been to visit my chilli man the day before me and had taken away with him a small bag of the precious Rocotos, with a staunch warning that these babies were hot.

So he did what he always does. Leapt on the couch and took a big chomp of the Chilli. His wife was in the kitchen and all she could hear was this croaky little voice saying, "Karin, I think I'm gonna die!!!"

Hence the phone call while I was visiting my friend. It was so funny. He has become very cautious about his choice of Saturday fruit munchies ever since. I can vouch for the heat rating they have been given of 10t.

They are hot, even without the black seeds.
