Anybode else have ravaged chili seedlings in Sydney?

by Antal
(Glebe)

The 5 chile serrano plats I was growing on my balcony in the Inner West of Sydney were doing pretty well... I had planted them in Spring and 2 were flowering and one had an actual Chili growing.

Then one evening I fed them and watered them, went to bed, and the next morning most of the leaves, all the flowers and the chili were gone! Only stems and a few half-eaten leaves were left!

What I want to know is, what ate them? There are no signs of snails, no bird droppings, and all other plants standing right next to them and around them were left alone: gardenias, a lemon tree, tomatillos; all were left untouched. This was a fairly selective attack.

Can anyone tell what it was? Any ideas or similar experiences? Are these ants, possums, birds? What must I do to stop this? Wouldn't mind some help here...
